The Taste Project, is an interactive space where you find the perfect playlists suited perfectly to your taste. The end site is an ecosystem where users discover endless suitable music for the taste they curate for themselves and have a place to interact with like minded music heads.
The genesis of this project is inspired by the various AI-engines and data collecting sites that allow Spotify users to take their account’s listening history and reflect on their general “taste” is various, fun ways. There are recently developed sites such as “Receiptify” or “Obscurify,” which take Spotify users’ data and show create sharable content for users to see how their listening habits compare to others who also connect their accounts. I, the creator of this project am heavily inspired by music and my current job in the music business. My current job is a position at a record label where the business model surrounds curating playlists reflecting the varying taste of influential figures. In previous projects for my job I have curated playlists (primarily on Spotify), for numerous specific tastes, themes, moods, etc. And on a similar note Spotify in particular creates a kind of universal experience for users, where they are able to take their personal account data, analyze, compare and contrast their listening habits to every listener on the platform on a grand scale.
However, sites and engines like previously mentioned only serve people who have an adequate listening history on Spotify, and don’t reflect music that they listen to outside of the platform or allow users to experiment with other potential tastes they may have. While curating playlists and discovering individual music taste is accessible to all, it is often a tedious task. This project provides an option for users participate in a choose-your-own-path game where they intentionally answer questions and get the taste results they prefer in that moment. It also provides an opportunity for users to take on a fictional persona and experiment with making different decisions throughout the project and get various results. This project does not require connecting the user’s existing account, and offers a space for non-Spotify or occasional Spotify users to discover their taste and get corresponding results in a way the existing AI-engines do not present.
Essentially, YOU the “client” of the project is music listeners/enjoyers who want to discover more music that aligns with their taste. It also provides a space for music listeners to take on a fictional user persona, and discover even more music that applies to different taste they might not get as a result of going through the project on their own behalf. Again, the intended end result of this project is also to provide an ecosystem where users who participate in the project have a platform and space to communicate with users who have like-minded music tastes, and are listening to similarly shared playlists.
